On April 16 2008 a press conference was held to announce the official kickoff of the fundraising campaign for The Texas Firefighter Memorial. Beaumont Texas Fire and Rescue, The Fire Museum of Texas and Firefighter's Local 399 came together to announce plans for the Memorial Plaza that includes a pavillion and the bronze Firefighter Memorial. A model of the Texas Firefighter Memorial was unveiled. It depicts a fire chief giving directions to the firefighter at the moment they both know the firefighter must go in to battle the blaze.
